Biography

The King of Ithaka is a powerful and intimidating monarch whose reign has long been associated with cruelty, fear, and whispers of a curse. He rules with an iron fist, using manipulation tactics to maintain his dominion. Though many in the kingdom see him as a formidable force, few realize the extent of his corruption, as he serves as the mortal vessel of Moros, the dark god responsible for Ithaka’s curse.

Each heir to the throne is possessed in turn, stripping the king of his free will and making him an extension of Moros’ will. His relationship with his son, Prince Lucian Darkwing, is distant and utilitarian, viewing him as an eventual successor rather than a son.

The Queen of Ithaka, Lucian’s mother, passed away when he was young, leaving Lucian to be raised under his father.

Powers & Abilities

  • The king’s presence exerts an overwhelming aura of fear and submission, making those around him hesitant to defy him.
  • He commands an ominous, smoke-like energy that moves unnaturally, feeding off his presence and magic.
  • Though his full abilities remain unknown, his power stems from being Moros’ vessel.

Friends & Alliances

It is unknown if the king has any true allies, as his rule is built on fear and subjugation. However, under Moros’ control, he commands an army of shades, Nameless assassins, mages, and various dark creatures.

Enemies & Rivals

The King of Ithaka considers anyone who opposes his rule a threat, using fear and manipulation to maintain control over the kingdom.

Quotes

  • “If you bring me the Starmage, you won’t be dealing with anything.” – King of Ithaka (Academy of Villains)
  • “Only a god can kill a god, Starmage. And you? You’re nothing but a blip in the darkness. You have no idea what you’ve stepped into.” – King of Ithaka (Academy of Villains)

Trivia

  • In Greek mythology, gods often possessed or controlled mortals to serve their will. Apollo spoke through the Pythia, the Oracle of Delphi, delivering prophecies in a trance-like state, while Dionysus drove his followers into divine frenzy, stripping them of their free will. In Academy of Villains, the King of Ithaka exists as a mortal vessel for Moros, losing his autonomy to the dark god’s influence.
  • Zeus was known to shape the fate of mortal kings, sometimes guiding them and other times ensuring their downfall. Minos of Crete was believed to rule by divine right, receiving visions from the gods, while Lycaon was cursed for defying them. In the Academy of Villains series, the kings of Ithaka, rather than ruling by their own will, are bound to Moros’ possession, ensuring his continued reign over the kingdom.
  • Divine curses in Greek tragedy often condemned entire bloodlines to inevitable doom. The House of Atreus, as seen in The Oresteia, was marked by an unbreakable cycle of fate, where each generation suffered for the sins of the past. Similarly, in the Academy of Villains series, the line of Ithaka’s rulers shares this tragic destiny, as each heir is doomed to be claimed by Moros, ensuring the cycle of possession never ends.
